HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06) 80cm – RAN Guided Missile Frigate

HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06) was the sixth and final Adelaide-class guided missile frigate built for the Royal Australian Navy. Commissioned in 1993, she served for more than 25 years on operations across the Indo-Pacific, Persian Gulf and Middle East before being decommissioned in 2019.

This impressive 80cm handcrafted timber model faithfully recreates HMAS Newcastle’s distinctive hull, superstructure, radar systems, weaponry, flight deck and naval fittings. Each model is individually built and hand-painted by skilled craftsmen with close attention to the appearance of the actual ship.

Presented fully assembled on a polished timber display base with a brass nameplate, this model makes a striking tribute to HMAS Newcastle and is ideal for former crew members, naval veterans, collectors and maritime enthusiasts.

The history of HMAS Newcastle FFG 06

HMAS Newcastle (FFG 06) was the sixth and final Adelaide-class guided missile frigate built for the Royal Australian Navy. She was constructed at Williamstown, Victoria, launched in 1992 and commissioned on 11 December 1993.

During more than 25 years of service, Newcastle operated throughout the Indo-Pacific, Persian Gulf and Middle East, supporting peacekeeping, maritime security, counter-terrorism and counter-piracy operations. Her service earned the battle honours East Timor 1999–2000, Persian Gulf 2001–03 and Middle East 2003–14.

HMAS Newcastle was decommissioned on 30 June 2019 and was later transferred to the Chilean Navy, where she entered service as Capitán Prat in 2020. Her long and distinguished career remains an important part of modern Royal Australian Navy history.
